The Story

  • A semi-dwarf variety of medlar which makes a great ornamental tree for any size of garden, also producing a good crop of delicious, russet-coloured fruit
  • Attractive foliage which turns warm shades of golden orange in autumn
  • Medlars need to 'blett' before being eaten - over-ripening to the point of softness. When picked, the fruit should be stored (traditionally it was kept in sawdust in stone jars) until soft
  • Makes a fantastic base for fruit jams and jelly
  • A small tree of great character, mentioned in Shakespeare and beloved since medieval times
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth.MORE
