The Story

  • Known for its vibrant summer berries, which start a vivid red before deepening to an intense purple, these fruits are incredibly popular with birds, and can also be used to make delicious jams and jellies!
  • Preceding the appearance of the berries, this tree bears a profusion of starry white flowers and bronze-tinged young leaves in spring, which make this one of the best trees you can plant for springtime interest.
  • Come autumn, the foliage takes on outstanding fiery shades of red, orange and yellow, giving the tree the appearance of a flame roaring beautifully in the garden (just without the danger).
  • A tough (yet graceful) and bushy tree, and tolerating a wide range of soil, this amelanchier is ideal for an exposed or difficult position in the garden. The berries are also known as juneberries and serviceberries.
