The Story
- This variety is a cobnut (a type of hazelnut).
- A small deciduous tree or large shrub with heavy crops of scrumptious nuts.
- A neat little tree ideal for any size of garden, growing to just 4 x 4m and can be pruned smaller.
- Bright green foliage turns yellow in autumn and pale yellow catkins appear from early spring, attracting beneficial pollinators.
- Harvest from late August to September.
- Grow in full sun or partial shade in a sheltered spot.
- Can be grown as a specimen tree or used for screening or hedging.
- Also known as 'Halle'sche Reissenuss' cobnut.
- Cobnuts are best eaten straight from the tree or in salads but can also be used in baking and desserts.
- Cobnuts, filberts, and other kinds of hazelnuts are all in the hazel genus Corylus. Cobnuts can be distinguished from filberts by their shorter husks, but the main thing you need to know is that they're absolutely delicious!
