The Story

  • A deciduous native hedge with frothy white clusters of flowers, which give it its nickname of The Snowball Tree
  • Fragrant clusters of flowers in summer are followed by red berries in autumn, along with warm red foliage
  • A fully hardy plant which will reach a height of approx 5m but can easily be maintained at 1-5m
  • Best grown in a sunny sheltered spot for the best flowers, but copes well with partial shade. Grow in any well drained soil
  • A UK native species that's attractive to birds and insects, with RHS Plants for Pollinators designation. The berries are not edible by humans but are loved by bullfinches and mistle thrushes
  • Grow as a single species or as part of a mixed native hedge for a natural look
