The Story

  • Sweet Briar aka Eglantine Rose is a vigorous native hedging plant that makes an impenetrable thicket of thorny stems
  • Apple scented leaves make a fresh backdrop for sprays of scented pink roses in the summer. These develop into orange hips that stay on the branches well into winter
  • A fully hardy plant which will reach a height of approx 3m but can easily be maintained at 1-3m
  • Best grown in a sunny sheltered spot for the best flowers, but will tolerate partial shade. Grow in any moist, well-drained soil
  • A UK native species that's attractive to birds and insects and thrives even in coastal, exposed areas
  • Grow as a single species or as part of a mixed native hedge for a natural look
